Contemplation/Memorial Space

In the digital era, what will it be the importance of religious places? Will it be there such things as memorials, places of contemplation? And how could them be, spatial, iconographical and dimensionally? How can design unite people around religion? And can design bring more than simbolic notions to the built enviroment.
